The Montreal High Lights Festival is a mix of many things. It is a festival of light, when the days are short and dark. There are light displays downtown and in the Old Port, and there is the All-Nighter [Nuit blanche], a night full of activities and performances that goes all night.
It is also a festival of gourmet food and wine. Many expensive restaurants have special events with famous guest chefs from all over the world. And, it is a festival of performing arts like dance and music.
Finally, it is a festival in February, when the winter is cold and seems very long. Usually, Montreal’s festivals are in summer. Part of the festival focuses on Montreal’s Underground City, including a 5 km running race through the tunnels connecting the metro stations and shopping malls.
