March 17th is Saint Patrick’s Day. It is not an official holiday, but it is a special day for people whose ancestors (family) come from Ireland. Thousands of Montrealers have Irish ancestors. On this day, people wear green clothes to celebrate the day.
There is always a parade on Sainte Catherine Street on the weekend nearest the day. There has been a Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Montreal for over 175 years, it is the oldest parade in North America. The parade starts at 12:00 noon at Fort Street, near our school.
