Montreal is home to the internationally famous Just For Laughs comedy festival every summer, but it also has lots of live comedy shows all year round. There are theatres and clubs in different places doing stand-up (when a comedian is talking and telling jokes) sketch comedy (when a group of actors is doing a short comedy scene) or improv (when a group of actors plays with no planning or script). There is also open-mic nights – when non-professionals from the audience try to be comedians.

Théâtre Ste. Catherine

Théâtre Ste. Catherine has improv comedy shows on Sundays at 8:00 pm.  Tickets are only $5 for students – come out for a night of laughs.

The Comedy Nest

The Comedy Nest is a club with stand-up comics. It is upstairs in the Pepsi Forum (near Metro Atwater) not far from Concordia. They have shows at 8:30 and 10:30 on the weekends. They have a low admission price for students. They also have an open-mic night.

Comedyworks is a well-known comedy club near Concordia. They have shows every night at 8:30 pm, and late shows on the weekend at 11:00. Monday is open-mic night. Wednesday is improv night. Thursday is a regular show, and Friday and Saturday have shows at 8:30 and 11:00 pm, but they cost more  plus you have to order one drink. They recommend that you call to make reservations because the club is small: 514-398-9661.
