Montreal is the centre of circus arts in Canada, and one of the most important circus cities in the world. It is the home of Cirque du Soleil, and the National Circus School and we even have permanent circus theatre.
Cirque du Soleil
It was in Montreal that the “New Circus” was invented by Cirque du Soleil. No animals or strange people to look at, just people doing incredible things. Today, Cirque du Soleil is a multi-billion dollar business with shows all over the world. The company still opens new shows here in Montreal, at a big tent in the Old Port. Tickets are hard to get, the shows always sell out, and they are in the city for only a few months before leaving, but the show is always amazing.
Tohu is a circus arts centre where there are circus performances from visiting circus companies and students. They always have interesting shows.
